Hello all.

Well, I guess I'll answer the question that has been on everyone's mind; "Tim, are you still not drinking?" Well, I am sad to say that I still have not had a drink this whole year. Today is day 215 or thereabouts, and I'm still sticking to my guns.

Of course, that's not to say that I haven't been to the bar this year. On the contrary, I've gone probably an average of at least once a week. It's not easy being the "All-Time Designated Driver," but I really don't mind too much. But, as of yet, nobody has gotten sick in my car. However, I have been forced to drive drunken friends to Taco Bell at 2:30 am and then watch in horror as a leaky burrito "blurps" out of its soft shell and onto the back seat of my "mint condition" 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.

The worst part of my not drinking is that many of my friends have really cut back on their drinking. This is especially true of my roommate Jon Covyeou (Da Chaplain). It's really kind of sad. But, Sober Tim is on the case! I've been a persistent instigator of alcoholic consumption. I've even started buying a round of tequila shots for the group to start the evening off.

I am determined to make it the rest of the year, but there are some challenges ahead. First, Cincinnati. Secondly, Brother Tennille Briguglio (Gamma Chi) is getting married on October 9th, and she's going to have not one, but two open bars at the reception. Add to this the fact that I started my clinical rotations today, and I can see that the path is going to get difficult ahead.

Some friends of mine have already decided that they are having a New Year's Eve party in Kalamazoo. They want to be there when I have my first alcohol in a year. I'm looking forward to this party, but I'll have to be careful because I'll be a really cheap date at this point. Have to watch out for all the women trying to get me drunk and take advantage of me! But, if this is the cross that I must bear, than so be it....

Wow... Jul. 30th, 2004 @ 06:38 pm
Holy crap! I'm now part of a community!

I was pleasantly surprised to find a KY LJ link on the Gamma Chi webpage. Had I known about this before, I would have already been a member!

I'm just glad to see that I'm not the only one who is excited about Cincinnati.

2004 Fall Province V - FYI Jul. 29th, 2004 @ 10:24 pm
I registered for my hotel room for Province V in Cincinnati, OH. Rock on! I got a room for 4 people for $69/night. The Province V website said $79 per night - so I was psyched when I got the email confirmation back and it solidified the $69 figure. So, sign up now so that you may also reap the benefit of this possible glitch.

I have let the chapter's province chair know of the price I received via an email. I will see if they change it on the web. Who knows.

See ya there!

» Hey Everyone
Hey guys, my name is Crystal and I'm party of the Gamma Chi chapter at Ferris State. I'm new at this whole live journal thing so hopefully this will work. I decided to join this community because I start pharmacy school next year and I'm scared to death. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. I've never really been sure if I wanted to be a pharmacist or not, but due to lack of interest in other things, here I am. I barely made it into the program and now I'm worried about surviving. Please help! :)

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get more members to join this community?
The more the better.. i think this community has the potential to be a great way of communicating fraternity-wide all through all provinces.
I thought about posting a message on the province 5 yahoo group, does anyone else think thats a good idea?
I just dont wanna break any kind of rules or anything.. im not too familiar with all the by-laws and stuff oh well.
» Pledging Is Near! How Exciting!
First, to all the chapters - good luck with recruitment/pledging.

A super great brother in our chapter gave us an idea to think about when carrying out pledging that I wanted to share. Remember that not everyone wants to be in a fraternity (or sorority). Students have misconceptions about what a fraternity does and stands for (in general). So, at an initial rush event, you may want to have the brothers focus discussion on - why should you join any fraternity. The ones interested in joining SOME fraternity will return. That's when you throw Kappa Psi at them (so to speak). Let them know how the brotherhood, etc. that KY has is so valuable - something they will regret passing up.

And back that up by living up to the standards that you tell pledges about. Keep up with the friendships, the meetings, and the great activities that I know all of your chapters have done so well at in the past!

I know you guys will all be fine during pledging. BUT - make sure you are having fun while you are at pledging events too. It's a way for all the current brothers to have a great time!

Your bro,
» Rush Events
Hey guys!
Just wondering if any of you have any good ideas for rush events. Or if you have done any rush events in the past that really worked out well and were a lot of fun, i would appreciate if you shared them with teh community, since gamma chi is a really small chapter and is in danger of losing our charter if we fall below 10 members after this fall when 3 people are leaving we will only be at 10 members.
I really wanna get some people interested in pledging out fraternity instead of the phi delts and lambda kappa sigma, the other pharmacy organizations.
Some past rush events weve held that worked out good were a hawaiian luau, ice cream social, and volleyball and bbq.
Your ideas are appreciated and will help us out.
By the way, anyone intrested in Province 5 activities, our province has a new domain.
